Library Science Talk - Clemens Neudecker, Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin

AI for digital libraries
The advances in artificial intelligence (AI) offer numerous opportunities for libraries. The Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preussischer Kuturbesitz is developing AI technologies for applications such as text and layout recognition, image analysis, information extraction, machine-assisted subject indexing, and digital curation. At the same time, the historical and cultural contexts of digitised collections must be considered, as they are heterogeneous and may include outdated or ethically problematic content. Drawing on experiences from projects like Mensch.Maschine.Kultur, the talk highlights practical AI applications in libraries alongside a sensitive and responsible approach to cultural heritage.
