XIV. International Symposium of Globe Studies 2019 Zurich / St Gallen

For the first time, the International Coronelli Society for Globe Studies, founded in 1952, will host a symposium in Switzerland - in collaboration with the Swiss National Museum, the Abbey Library of St Gallen and the Central Library of Zurich. The conference is aimed at professionals and those interested in scientific matters alike. Topics include the manufacture and use of globes and their history. Also, specific issues can be discussed, such as the inventory, maintenance and restoration of such artifacts. Contributions to globe-related representations such as armillary spheres, planetariums, telluria and lunariums are also welcome.
Program
Wednesday October 2nd: Evening city tour in Zurich / «early birds» registration
informal gathering in the restaurant Commihalle, Stampfenbachstrasse 8 (near National Museum, each person pays for him- or herself)
Thursday October 3rd: Presentation of papers, globe-specific tours of the not yet opened permanent exhibition of the National Museum (exclusive preview of the newly designed showrooms), visit to the exhibition «Cosmos in the Cabinet / Kosmos in der Kammer» in the Central Library.
Friday October 4th: Presentation of papers, visit to the exhibition «World Picture / Welt-Bild» in the Polytechnical Institute (ETH) Zurich, dinner together above the roofs of the historic city centre.
Saturday October 5th: Study tour to St Gallen, visit to the world heritage site Abbey Library with its St Gallen Globe (replica) and the famous Monastery Plan.
The various venues in the symposium's program are within a few minutes' walk of each other.
Participation fee
120 EUR
(includes refreshments and coffee during the breaks, visits to the various exhibitions, exclusive guided tours, an invitation to have dinner together on Friday and a bus ride to St. Gallen with a typical regional snack [return via airport].)

if you are interested to get the printed conference papers published in Globe Studies. Journal of the International Coronelli Society for the Study of Globes (Please note: Members of the International Coronelli Society for the Study of Globes will get the publication as part of the subscription.)
