Turicensia Lounge
If you’re interested in the culture and history of the city and canton of Zurich, the Turicensia Lounge will be right up your street. Situated in the heart of the reading room and offering comfortable furnishings, a carefully curated reference library and a broad range of press materials, it’s the perfect place to while away an hour or two.
Zurich-focused reference library
The reference library houses a wide range of media relating to Zurich. This provides an insight into the Zentralbibliothek Zürich’s duty to maintain its collection as a cantonal library and offers an up-to-date glimpse of the canton’s publication landscape. The thematic colour-coding makes it possible to browse through specific categories and discover new works.
- Yellow − compass: reference works, standard works and encyclopaedias on Zurich.
- Green − fiction: recent fiction, comics, graphic novels, children’s and young adult literature − written by Zurich-based authors or set in Zurich.
- Red − non-fiction: non-fiction books on Zurich-related topics, such as biographies, local history and works on sports, technology and nature.
- Turquoise − we love Zurich: ‘special’ media relating to Zurich – illustrated books, city and hiking guides, games and much more.
A wide range of regional and local newspapers as well as Zurich-centric magazines complete the range on offer.
ZürichFenster − bite-sized exhibitions
The ZürichFenster in the Turicensia Lounge explores a new aspect of the history, literature, culture and society of the city and canton of Zurich every three months or so. These bite-sized temporary exhibitions not only display large-format images, but also an interactive screen with informative text and an array of visual material, often supplemented by audiovisual elements. A selection of books matching the theme of the exhibition offers a further opportunity to immerse yourself in another world.
