Would you like to not only manage your school or community library, but also actively shape it? This course will give you the tools you need to lead confidently as a manager or deputy manager, strengthen your team and raise the profile of your library.

What can you expect?

You will deepen your knowledge from the basic or certificate course and further develop your leadership skills. Together, we will reflect on practical experiences, analyse your leadership behaviour and further develop your personal leadership style. You will discover how to build trust internally through team development and clear communication and how to make your library more visible externally through marketing and a professional appearance. 

Our focus areas:

Module 1: Managing, leading and planning

  • Strategic library management and development, networks and collaborations
  • Employee management, personnel and social security law
  • Team development with your own role in the team and dealing with disruptions
  • Legal basics in connection with everyday library life

Module 2: Presentation and communication

  • Library marketing, social media
  • Professional communication and presentation skills
  • Writing workshop 

Target audience

For employees of public school or municipal libraries in management positions (head or deputy) who wish to expand their skills.

Admission requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Bibliosuisse certificate course or the former SAB basic course/foundation course
  • Completed vocational training or secondary school qualification (secondary level II)
  • Good knowledge of Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet use
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicative, sociable, able to work in a team

Course length and dates:

  • Next course: 4 May to 29 June 2026
  • 80 lessons (45 minutes each) on 10 course days (Monday and Thursday)
  • Exclusive self-study time for preparation and follow-up work, as well as written performance assessment

Course fees:

  • CHF 800 for participants from the canton of Zurich
  • CHF 1,200 for participants from other cantons
